In cataract surgery, the cloudy
natural lens of the eye is removed and replaced with
an artificial lens called an intraocular lens
implant or IOL. IOL’s are tiny prescription lenses
that are placed inside the eye and stay their
permanently.
Conventional IOL’s are designed to help either with
distance vision or with close-up vision, but not
with both.
One of the most recent advances in cataract surgery
is the availability of “bifocal,” “multi-focal,” or
“accommodating” IOL’s. These IOL’s are designed to
help reduce or eliminate the need for reading
glasses or bifocal eyeglasses after cataract
surgery. The most popular brands are ReStor, ReZoom,
and Crystalens. Because the age-related loss of
reading vision that affects all of us is called
“presbyopia” these implants are also referred to as
“presbyopia-correcting IOL’s. During your in-office
consultation, we can determine whether you are a
good candidate for a presbyopia-correcting IOL and
can help you choose between the different styles
available.
While most insurance plans cover the cost of
conventional IOL’s, they do not cover the extra cost
of so-called “premium” IOL’s like
presbyopia-correcting IOL’s. However, we are proud

help make these outstanding IOL’s affordable to
almost everyone. Our payment programs generally
